Styles of Writing

In literature, writing style is usually the style of expressing ideas in literary language characteristic to a person, time, country, or school. This style of literary communication may be called conventional or creative writing or even creative writing. The ideas expressed may be historical, current, or fictional. While fiction books are set in an imaginary world, most works of non-fiction books are often based on real life events. Most famous writers of literature are famous because of their creativity and their outstanding style.

The English language has several distinguishable styles. These styles are known as British, American, and English informal. British informal style is usually referred to as British writing style because it is widely used throughout the English speaking world and has become the most common style. A British informal style is characterized by a stronger emphasis on the subject or verb rather than the content. For instance, the word “be” is omitted from the sentence “The man loves his dog.”

American English, also known as American informal style, is considered the standard style in North America. Unlike British style, it does not have a third person singular verb. As a result, the sentence is more free than the previous two mentioned styles. Unlike the previous two styles, however, the use of a verb is still quite frequent. For example, “He took the dog for a walk” is an example of American informal language.

The fourth style we will discuss is called the informal style. It is a variant of the fashionable or contemporary style. Informal style shares some similarities with the fashionable or contemporary style but it differs in some ways such as the usage of a subject in sentences. An informally written sentence is written using the auxiliary verb “to” such as “was” or “was in” and is therefore independent of the subject.

In conclusion, each of these four styles has its own place in our society. There are people who like one of them (e.g. formal, contemporary or informally written) more than the other (e.g. formal, trendy or modern). With this information, it can be determined which style is more fashionable.

As you now understand the six different styles and their functions, you should be able to make consistent use of your chosen style of writing. You should have learned that proper nouns need to be conjugated correctly, nouns need to have definite and indefinite articles at the end and that you need to avoid stigma words.
